The Health and Safety Executive describe work related stress as “the adverse reaction people have to excessive pressure or other types of demand placed on them”.  But what is ‘excessive’ and why do people react so differently to the same situation?  Why is ‘pressure’ motivating for some and potentially debilitating for others?

One answer is that as individuals we are all unique; our personality, life experience and beliefs combine to establish a framework from which we engage in the world around us. No one is exempt from the possibility that, at some time in their life, they may suffer from stress and consequently a stress related condition, affecting both work and home life.
